Satta Hashem moved to Leicester in 2000. He graduated with an MA in Fine Arts specialising in Murals and Decorative Arts from Leningrad Vera Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design in the USSR in 1989.
Hashem’s work has received international recognition and is represented in both public and private collections, including drawings in The British Museum’s permanent collections, and paintings in the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Kaliningrad, Russia, Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. Leicester City Council, Stockholm City Council and Handelsbanken in Stockholm, Sweden and many private collections.
In the last two years I have been experimenting and working very closely with screenprinting. I have produced a lot of small and medium size prints on paper and now I have moved on to a larger size. The subject of these large scale prints is based on the interaction between colours and form, as we see in mosaics for example.
