Neil Orton

Starting out as a letterpress compositor in the 1970s I have spent my working life in the printing industry. Over the years, with the introduction of new technology, I have seen my working environment evolve from the traditional craft of hand set type to the modern artwork-generating computer systems in place today.

With a desire to get back to a more hands on approach to printing I attended a weekend Introduction to screenprinting course at Leicester Print Workshop and decided to become a member.

Joining LPW has enabled me to combine my printing knowledge and experience with my interest in art by using screen-printing as a means of producing a finished image. Using drawing software on a computer I am able to generate initial designs with modern techniques that reach completion using methods reminiscent of the days I spent pulling galley proofs as an apprentice.
