Karen MacInnes

Notions of home and what it means to be away from home are central themes within my work. Recently, I have been developing a body of work that relates to a period of time spent living in Germany and explores ideas about memory and how we archive our lives.

An important part of my practice is taking photographs. This activity, which is like a way of making notes or sketches, often informs and leads to decisions about my work, which includes drawings, paintings, collages and prints, often with a mixed media approach.

I studied Fine Art at Cumbria College of Art and Design (Fine Art Foundation), Staffordshire University (BA (Hons) (1st Class) Fine Art) and the Glasgow School of Art (Master of Fine Art).
