Gino Ballantyne

Gino establishes a context for his ideas which searches for a truer unconstrained character. This enables him to create an individual interpretation of reality. His process is reflective therefore the popularity of the academic illustration and working to a formula are contrary to his way of working. Individual expression, elaboration of ideas, intuition and direct experience, are his filters, and universal themes and ideas are consistently echoed in his work.

The type of enigmas and referencing that concern the contemporary art world and the inevitable stalwarts of Post modernism: categorisation and mannerism, he leaves to those more proficient at playing that game. Gino believes his instinct to look and feel are what keep his context fresh and help his ideas intelligently evolve.

Gino attended The Glasgow School of Art : BA(Hons) Fine art, and University of the Arts London, Wimbledon : MFA in Painting, he also has a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education from Oxford Brookes.

Gino spent the last year making etchings at Leicester Print Workshop as part of the Practical Dialogue collaborative residency.
