smallprint
smallprint: big impression 2011 has now finished touring.
smallprint:big impression is an international showcase of contemporary fine art printmaking, which presented artists from across the UK and as far afield as the US and New Zealand.
smallprint 2011 was our biggest smallprint to date. The exhibition toured to the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery in Leicester (images show Sarah Kirby installing the show, and the opening night above), 78 Derngate in Northampton, Rufford Craft Centre in Nottinghamshire, Gallery Top in Matlock and mac in Birmingham.
The exhibition featured 150 pieces by over 100 artists. The chosen works were selected by; Anne Desmet, Printmaker and Editor of Printmaking Today, Craig Ashley, Producer of Visual Arts at the mac, Birmingham and Irena Czapska, Printmaker and Manager at Spike Print Studio, Bristol.
A diverse range of printmaking techniques were represented in the exhibition, including etching, lithography, and relief work as well as digital prints. All works were united by their small scale with no image size larger than 100 square cms.
A selection of prints from the touring exhibition will be on display at John Clare Cottage this Spring. The Cottage is a museum and small gallery space dedicated to the life and works of rural poet John Clare and is in the beautiful village of Helpston, between Peterborough and Stamford on the Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire borders.
More information about to follow. The next smallprint: big impression will take place in 2015. If you want to be added to our mailing list to receive call outs for this and our other printmaking exhibitions please get in touch.
