Printmaker of the Month - Kate Hodges

We’ve created a space in the LPW Studio which can be booked by members to test out new ideas and exhibit final work, work in progress or any research or ideas. The current exhibition in the space is a selection of prints by LPW Artist Kate Hodges.

Photolithography has been a fascinating process to discover and learn. I have not mastered this alchemy, I realise I never will, but I’m cool with that, because I love it. I will continue to wrestle with it creating images from drawings and photographs, enjoying the small victories, accidental successes and occasional realisation of planned outcomes.

The five smaller images are derived from photographs taken on holidays. Pared down to simple images, then layered up with experimental forms of mark making to introduce colour and narrative. Some of these images have gone full circle creating postcards capturing my memories of the original journey.

The tree is a plein air sketch and my attempt to maintain spontaneity despite the necessary care required in the technical process.
