No-One Will Ever Know How Happy I've Been

Etchings by Suzanne Balkanyi (1922 – 2005)
Jane Sunbeam Artist Residency Exhibition

LPW Exhibition Space & The Print Room at LCB Depot

11th August – 27th October 2018

Leicester Print Workshop is happy to present work by artist and illustrator Suzanne Balkanyi, in collaboration with The Suzanne Balkanyi Trust. This exhibition is the first major posthumous show of her work in the UK.

No-one Will Ever Know How Happy I’ve Been takes its title from words said by the artist near the end of her life. For Sarah Kirby, Exhibition Curator, it is Balkanyi’s joy at engaging with and playing a part in everyday city life, her love of getting to know and connecting with her subjects through keen observation; and the exhilaration and delight in telling stories that comes across in her pictures.

This exhibition focuses on work that exemplifies not only her skillful characterisation and the acute scrutiny evident in her drawings but also her shy humour and originality.

Jane Sunbeam Artist Residency Exhibition

Since April, artist Jane Sunbeam has been making new work at Leicester Print Workshop in response to Balkanyi’s work, with support from the LPW team, Exhibition Curator Sarah Kirby and formerr LPW Apprentice Katy Goodrich.

The resulting work will be shown in the LPW Project Space from 11th August – 8th September, and at The Print Room at LCB Depot from 17th September – 27th October.
