In Conversation: Serena Smith

When and where?

Wednesday 6th June 5.30pm - 7.00pm
at Leicester Print Workshop.

What does it cost?

Join us for teatime talks with LPW artists, as they discuss the ideas and inspiration behind 3 recent pieces of work.

Meet LPW Artist & Technician Serena Smith, in the first of a new series of events which sees LPW Artists in discussion with LPW Artist & Technician Theo Miller.

Serena Smith was born in London in 1960, and trained as a collaborative studio lithographer in the 1980s. Her subsequent and ongoing work as printmaker, technician, consultant, educator, mentor, collaborator, and facilitator, draws on that experience as both a maker, and mediator.

Alongside supporting other artists, her own studio practice is informed by interest in the perpetual dialogue between the immersive flux of daily life, and the artist’s observation and objectification of that experience. In bringing attention to this fragmentary process, she works primarily with drawing, printmaking, and other objects to hand.

Serena’s work has been selected for numerous exhibitions both in the UK and internationally; recent group exhibitions include: Sketch Open, Rabley Drawing Centre; The John Ruskin Prize, Sheffield; Xiaoxang portfolio and exhibition of international printmaking, Changsha, China; Akram Khan: One side to the Other, Lowry, Salford; Litho-Kielce, Poland. She has been the recipient of several exhibition prizes and awards including the, Wirksworth Festival Prize and the Oppenheim-John Downes Memorial Trust Award.

This FREE event will take place in the LPW Project Space. Booking is not required.
