I rediscovered printmaking twelve years ago. Etching and plate lithography had been part of my studies, alongside painting, at Bath Academy. With no access to printing facilities I had not continued printmaking: until I attended an outreach course tutored by a member of the Leicester Print Workshop. What I learnt that day had a huge impact on my work and my career. Collagraph and dry point: I was so excited by these immediate forms of expression.
For me a painting is a search into the unknown and involves a lot of changing and reworking in order to find something that I did not know already. In printmaking one is somehow free of that obligation to search. You can just draw straight from your psyche and the fact that you can not change anything is liberating and I am often surprised at the imagery that I have produced. I am inspired by ancient landscapes, standing stones, signs and symbols of past civilisations, colour and more recently, all that is to do with fishing boats.I regularly show in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and my work may be seen in the following galleries:
