Press on the Radio!

12th March 2019

Last week saw our Director Yasmin Canvin and LPW artist Theo Miller join Geeta Pendse on The A Word on BBC Radio Leicester to chat.

The A Word is BBC Radio Leicester’s coverage of stories across local arts and culture. Geeta Pendse was interested to hear more about our current projects, having heard about The New Custodian. Our Director Yasmin and artist Theo joined her in the studio and chose a few tracks to play on the show.

Theo talks about the origins of The New Custodian, and working with young people from The Y to restore the press in our Gallery. Theo’s choice of tracks includes “If I Possessed a Printing Press” by George Hamilton IV, from 1957, the decade in which we believe this press was last used to make prints. Theo also talks a little about his printmaking journey, and his joy working as a technician and supporting members in the LPW studio.

Yasmin talks about her work with artists in India, and our new project The View From Here, which will see us working with older people from South Asian backgrounds, in collaboration with the Leicester Belgrave Mela, The Leicester Neighbourhoods and Library Service and dance company, Aakash Odedra Company. This work will see LPW Artist Sally Stephens making prints with residents at care homes and visitors to community day centres across the city. Yasmin also talks about our call for applications for our first ever Print Fair, here at LPW on Saturday 13th July.
