Supporting new printmaking talent

10th October 2016

Leicester Print Workshop is proud to support and nurture new talent in the region by offering four prizes to graduating students at the Leicester DeMontfort and Loughborough Universities.

Our prizewinner at Loughborough University is Connie Liebschner.

Connie’s work explores the unusual interplay between light and domestic spaces, utilising a mixture of both digital photographic and traditional screenprint techniques. (see image right)

Connie graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Fine Art this Summer. She has been awarded with one year’s Full Print Membership, enabling her to use the Leicester Print Workshop studio to continue to develop her work.

At Leicester DeMontfort University we awarded two prizes, to graduating Fine Art students, Niamh Meehan & Rhianne Burgess.

Rhianne works with line and motion, representing physical actions as images. Her line drawings included a portrait of nose-picking and a study of the actions taken as someone gets changed with the movement of each part – hands, feet, fingers – represented as lines on the paper.

Both artists have been awarded with 4 hours one to one teaching at Leicester Print Workshop, working with a member of the LPW studio team to develop their work using printmaking.

For the first time this year we also awarded a prize to a student graduating from Leicester DeMontfort’s Foundation Studies in Art & Design. This prize went to Tazana Legall, who produced collagraphs and screenprints in her final show. She will also receive a 4 hour one to one tutoring session from one of the LPW team as her prize.

Graduating students can join LPW as a Full Print Member to continue to develop their printmaking and practice at our Studio. All new members must have an induction, ensuring that they are working safely, and following this you can use the studio to make work 5 days a week – Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am – 5pm with a late night opening until 8pm on a Wednesday. We always have a technician in the studio to offer assistance and advice. If you are a graduating or current student looking for a somewhere to make prints please get in touch for more information about joining as a member.
